Edit fields in Cloud - consistency? expectation?

Could someone advise what my expectations should be as to under what circumstances I can simply click into a field and can edit it vs having to click the ‘pencil’/edit icon first before being able to edit, please? EG Receive Inventory Part - click in field and can edit   Customer Order Lines - have to click ‘pencil’/edit to change quantity   It would be useful to have an explanation to pass on to users. Thanks! Linda   You should never have to click a ‘pencil’’ icon in oder to edit a field on a record maintenance screen.  This pretty much violates every tenet of good UI design I was taught in college.  You should be able to just click on a field to edit it, and once changed, ‘save/cancel’ buttons should appear where ‘Cancel’ reverts your changes to the original values loaded from the record.  This is expected functionality, and there is no reason you should not expect it.Perhaps, one day….

IFS Workflow REST API Response Handling

I will submit a request. I suppose in the meantime I will have to write the web requests in JavaScript so I can store both the response body and the response code into variables. Thank you for the help! I would like to know how you write the web requests in JavaScript?  Would you mind sharing this if you get it to work?  I have the same need.  Thank you!Also, if you made that request as an ‘Idea’ here in IFS Community, would you mind linking it in this thread so we can upvote it?  Again, thank you!

Deprecation of the FTP and Shared repository types in Docman in 24R1 - a heads-up

Who benefits from this and how do they benefit?  This seems rather capricious and difficult for customers who rely on currently available options.  Aren’t there more important things we could do to help our customers instead of making their lives more difficult?

Add Label in custom screen to logically "group" related properties

There are a couple ways to add labels.  One is what you’re doing.  Another is to add a label to a column panel in the column panel properties.  Both of these approaches do not allow for font or background styles.  You can play some tricks with using a column panel which just contains non-db fields where the column properties are set so the label % is 100 and the control % is 0, but I think, depending on the control type, you still see some visual rendering for the control.  You would need to experiment.  The idea is that you have a panel with headings directly above the panel with the actual grouped data.I usually utilize the column property labels. With regard to the web client, to my knowledge the web client does not support item styles as of FSM 6 update 16. Please let me know if this helps.

FSM Custom Attachment Tab Browse Popup

You need to set lookup navigation for the attachment_id field.  As shown in the first image below, right click on the field in FSM UI Editor, then select ‘Set Lookup Navigation’ from the context menu.  In the resulting dialog window, edit the top line to appear exactly as shown in the second image.The attachment lookup, which is what you’re seeing, is defined for the ‘file path’ field in our baseline attachment listviews.  This is used when you want to select an existing attachment to associate with a specific entity - e.g. a task step or a place.Image 1 of 2:Image 2 of 2:

Editing of the Attachment Screen - Mobile App

DebriefTaskAttachment and DebriefTaskAttachmentAdd can be modified like other screens, though I think you don’t have any fields on one of them.  You can still modify it or create a new screen to supplant it and modify the fields on your new screen.There are two baseline screen types:  AttachmentCard, and AttachmentListand two baseline renditions of these named BaseAttachmentCard and BaseAttachmentList, respectively.The AttachmentList screen does show the file name, which is why I am confused about what the OP actually wants.  You can create a custom screen with screen type of AttachmentList and choose whichever fields you desire.

FSM: Regarding recommendations for Azure instance count to improve the performance

Always do one initialization to ‘prime’ the cache, then do multiple concurrent initializations.Because of the way .Net handles memory allocation, ’scale-out’ by adding instances would be my approach, unless you have system RAM specified so low there isn’t 2GB available for heap.I think the nut you’re trying to crack is the FSM cache, which I believe is separate on each instance.  Once that is built up, you should be able to initialize multitudes of mobile users concurrently.  This is easy with a single instance, but if I’m right that each instance maintains its cache separately, I don’t know a way to guarantee that all instances have a fully populated cache.  I know we’ve done some work with cross-instance synchronization, so you may only need to run that first initialization start to finish regardless of how many instances you have, and then proceed with the 1+Nth initializations concurrently.

Conditional expressions in Value type Business Rule

Make sure that you have force_select = ‘Y’ set for TDC_TASK_EXT.USER_DEF103.  My guess is that FSM is not retrieving the value from the database, so it’s always null for the condition.Is your custom business process triggered on a TASK table transaction?  If not, try the whole custom business process against the TASK table, referencing the extension fields as if they were part of the TASK table rather than the extension table.

FSM - Three Way Billing

Ady -This is an interesting problem.  My first thought is that you make all your actual items non-billable and then use a view to sum up the cost/price for the total bill on the order (I think there may be a baseline view for this).  Take those totals and add billable non_part_usage records for each of the various payers, manipulating the place ID and amount on the NPU records via custom business process./Mike Fleming

Appointment Booking - Accept Slots Rest API

I would try it through the FSM Web Client or Smart Client and look at the JSON or XML log to see how the FSM Client is managing the appointment booking MPM calls.  If you’re using the FSM Web Client, Fiddler is your friend.  ;-)

Sinyb -Are you referring to this screen or something else?  Could you provide a screenshot of the screen where you would like to see the file name?  Are you wanting ATTACHMENT.ATTACHMENT_NAME (which is does not need to be a reference to the file name) or ATTACHMENT.ATTACHMENT_PATH?  My guess it you want ATTACHMENT.ATTACHMENT_NAME because none of the baseline screens currently show the path.Out of the box, when I go to Attachments in the Debrief workflow, this is what I see:

It works without anything else.  The Web Client javascript is keyed to the tag and renders an export button for any listgroup ‘header_def’ tag in the results panel node of the defining XML document.

Yes.  You can do this from the Web Client, though it’s a little different.  Some screens have an ‘export’ button on the search results.  If the screen you want to export search results from does not already have an export button, then you need to add one in UI Designer.In a custom screen, add an empty <header_def/> tag in the result panel. Like this (see screenshot). This will give you an export button in the TASK screen for the Web Client.

FSM Mobile - Icon Status

The mobile source code creates ‘alias maps’ for the following tokens:BUTTON_ADDBUTTON_NEXTBUTTON_SAVEBUTTON_LISTQUICK_ACTIONBAR_STATUSQUICK_ACTIONBAR_OVERVIEWQUICK_ACTIONBAR_ATTACHMENTQUICK_ACTIONBAR_NOTESAll of these are defined as ‘screen controls’ and the first three of these are also defined (mapped) as ‘screen items’.  I would try referencing the BUTTON_SAVE alias; perhaps manually create a ‘screen item’ for it, and see if you can attach a client script to the click event.  I am not sure if that will work or not.

PM Request Generation Error

I would set logging level BR=6 and EX=9 and see if I get anything in the server log.  If you can get a stack trace, it may give us a clue.The last thing I can think of is to engage IFS professional services and send a copy of your database to IFS for troubleshooting.  Depending upon the terms of any existing maintenance agreement, this may be a paid service.

Mass Update button

Martin, I’m not sure what to tell you.  I looked this over again, and I don’t see what is wrong.  Admittedly, I am pretty biased because I wrote it!  You really don’t need anything more for the database transaction after the call to executeRequest().The only thing I can suggest is using the alert() function to validate that the data being referenced is correct.  For example, is row.task_id returning the expected value?  I’m also assuming you’re using FSM 6 update 6?

FSM Notifications

You would either use a ditribution list with separate static entries for each recipient (as @Lee Pinchbeck has noted), and/or you would use a distribution entry with a wildcard variable that resolves to a set of addresses (i.e. retrieves multiple PERSON records).  For the wildcard substitution variable, if more than one record qualifies in the final mapping, FSM will use all of them.

Try a mobile client script that incorporates the baseline code, replacing the baseline ‘refresh’ script for the screen, and adds the following line:setControlVisibility('QUICK_ACTIONBAR_STATUS', false);I have had success with this on Android.

FSM Active user session is stored in which table ?

It doesn’t actually work the way you are might be thinking.  FSM doesn’t really store user session information in a table.  There is a ‘virtual’ table which can be used in business rules that has a special name.  The table name is USER_LOG_IN, but it’s not a real table.  It represents the person record for the current user, so you can access things like USER_LOG_IN.person_id or USER_LOG_IN.first_name.Remember, FSM uses a “stateless” server.  FSM maintains no record of a user session state.  It only maintains a list of which client sessions are ‘active’, and I am purposefully over-simplifying here.

FSM - Restrict access to smartclient for role/person

The easiest way to (sort of) do it would be not providing the Smart Client to the user.  If they can’t install it conveniently, they can’t use it conveniently.  You could possibly put an authentication page in front of the Client installation web page unless you are using the integrated Smart Client.  That would allow you to provide the click-once Smart Client to some users, but not others in an environment where users would be expected to share the installation URL with each other.Ultimately, FSM doesn’t require any client identification, so there isn’t a technical way to control what is used to access the FSM server - only who.

FSM Smart / Web client date format configuration

If there is a way to do this, I don’t think it’s an easy way.  I also don’t think there is really a way to do it for the whole application as you asked.  For a single datetime value, I might have two fields (possibly both non-DB fields) on the screen, one of them the existing UTC datetime and the other a string with a valid time zone name ( sys.time_zone_info  ).  FSM uses these strings, so I don’t think you would need to convert it.  I’d then define a custom Client Script SQL command using T-SQL AT TIME ZONE to return the value in the desired time zone.  This assumes you’re using SQL Server or Azure SQL.
